Mitt Romney and Lindsey Graham say Ukraine didn't meddle in 2016 election

Sen. John Kennedy, arrives at the Capitol in Washington on Oct. 4 2018

The leaders of Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany meet in the so-called "Normandy" format on December 9, to help end a conflict between Ukrainian troops and Russian-backed forces in eastern Ukraine that has killed more than 13,000 people.

Romney's statement breaks with President Donald Trump and a number of fellow Republicans who contend that Ukraine may have also tried to meddle in the results.

Over the last few weeks, current and former White House officials testified before the House Intelligence Committee and debunked the baseless conspiracy theory that the government of Ukraine, not Russian Federation, interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

At the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Senator Robert Menéndez, a New York Democrat, asked Hale if he was aware of any evidence that Ukraine would interfere in the 2016 elections.

In a follow up comment to CNN regarding his stance on Ukraine's involvement in the 2016 race, Graham stated, "I've got no doubt that it was the Russians who stole the DNC emails. It wasn't Ukraine. Russia was behind the stolen DNC emails and (John) Podesta and all that good stuff".

He later added, "So as to the Ukraine, they had zero to do with the hacking of the DNC and the stealing of the emails. All I've seen is press reports that no one has validated".

In a Senate Foreign Relations hearing on US policy toward Russia, David Hale, the department's undersecretary for political affairs, succinctly summed up the findings of the USA intelligence community in response to questioning from the panel's top Democrat, Sen.

Graham has a record of disagreeing with Trump on military and intelligence issues, and usually sides with the military and the United States Intelligence Community (USIC) on national security concerns.

Sources tell CNN that no United States intelligence agency has ever produced a product accusing the Ukrainian government of interfering in the 2016 U.S. election.

House Republicans have also pushed the narrative that Ukraine was opposed to Trump and worked against him in 2016. Second, because Fiona Hill, a former member of the White House National Security Council, and a Russian Federation authority, was clear about what House Republicans were already doing. They also claim Ukraine hacked the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and computer records were falsified to blame Russian Federation.
