Searchers have found a body believed to be Claire Hockridge, who has been missing in the Northern Territory outback for two weeks.

Claire Hockridge, 46, became stranded with two friends south of Alice Springs on November 19, when their ute became bogged in sand on a river bed.

Tamra McBeath-Riley (left) and Claire Hockridge (right) were reported missing after setting out for a hike in central Australia.

Mr Tran was found by a pastoralist who was conducting a bore check at the Palmer Valley station south of Alice Springs.

Tamra McBeath-Riley, 52, and Phu Tran, 40, were found alive earlier this week.

The discovery of Mr Tran a fortnight after he went missing in the heat of the Outback was described as miraculous by Police Superintendent Pauline Vicary on Tuesday.

The three friends had set out to explore the country's vast interior near Alice Springs on Nov 19 when their auto became bogged down in a river bed.

Ms Hockridge was last seen by Mr Tran at the boundary fence of a station south of Alice Springs two days ago, where the two had parted ways and he chose to follow the fence line.

"We believe that person to be Claire Hockridge", she said.

"We are all grieving and exhausted from the emotional rollercoaster that we've ridden", she told reporters.

Teagan posted on social media: "Devastated & heartbroken doesn't reach our pain in this time; we as a family appreciate the public's respect for our time of grief & while we come to terms with this reality".

NT Police announced the discovery of the body of a woman south of Alice Springs on Wednesday.

Formal identification is yet to be conducted and police said they would prepare a report for the coroner.

After launching a new aerial search following the rescue of McBeath-Riley, police discovered footprints suggesting the pair had separated.

They stayed together for a harrowing few days with little food before splitting up to get help.

Tran was found three days after his friend Tamra McBeath-Riley was found about 1.5 km (0.9 miles) from the vehicle they had been travelling in through Australia's remote north.

They had used up all their supplies of water, as well as some vodka drinks, biscuits and beef noodles they had in the vehicle.
