Wolfpack sign SBW for $10m, target Holmes next

Williams made his name with seven barn-storming seasons in the NRL

Already poised to sign All Black Sonny Bill Williams to a two-year, $10 million deal, the Wolfpack are reportedly interested in acquiring Tuilagi's services ahead of their first season in English rugby league's premier competition.

Toronto is expected to announce the signing of the global double-code Williams on Thursday and will present it at a press conference in London next Thursday.

Williams will be one of the Wolfpack's two marquee signings which means only the first £150,000 of his salary will count on the league's salary cap.

The two-time World Cup victor, who played his last match for the All Blacks in the bronze medal win over Wales in Tokyo last Friday, has accepted an offer that will make the highest-paid player in the history of either code.

Williams signs autographs after New Zealand's loss to England in the semifinals at last month's Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Later that year he was named Rugby League International Federation player of the year, and has been capped 12 times by New Zealand's rugby league team. He appeared 73 occasions for Canterbury and 45 occasions for Sydney within the Nationwide Rugby League in Australia.

As another testament to his athleticism, he had a side career as a professional boxer between 2009 and 2015, amassing a 7-0 record with three knockouts.

The signing of Sonny Bill Williams is huge for rugby league across the United Kingdom and North America. Some have known as Williams "the LeBron James of Rugby".

Argyle, an Australian mining magnate, has made no secret of his ambition to sign world-class players and believes Williams can have on Super League the sort of impact David Beckham had on the Major Soccer League in North America.

And he'll take a share in Toronto Wolfpack.

The Rugby Football League released the full schedule for their top circuit on Tuesday. Three early-season games will be at neutral sites in England including the opener on February 2 at Headingley Stadium in Leeds against the Castleford Tigers which will be part of a doubleheader with a Leeds Rhinos match.

St Helens launch the defence of their title the following night against Salford, the side they beat at Old Trafford in October, while newly-promoted Toronto will play Castleford on the Sunday at Headingley as part of a double-header that also includes Leeds against Hull FC. On Feb. 29, the groups will play on the residence of London's well-known rugby union membership Saracens.
