Smith stars in Aussies' win

Australia vs Pakistan Rain Comes To Pakistan

AUSTRALIAN batsman Steve Smith plays a shot during the second Twenty20 global against Pakistan at the Manuka Oval on Tuesday.

Steve Smith smashed an unbeaten 80 off 51 balls and led Australia to a thumping seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the second Twenty20 on Tuesday.

"We've got so much cricket on, he (Cummins) plays a lot of it, so when you get a little opportunity, rather than taking the long flight to Perth, he's going to stay here, recover and get prepared for the Test series", Australia coach Justin Langer said on Wednesday. "We've got guys like Steve, who does what he does better than anyone else in the world".

Australia are on a hot T20 streak, having not been beaten in their last seven matches.

"We are disappointed but Steve Smith took the match away", Babar said through a translator. It's very hard when we lose early wickets. "We didn't bat well in the Powerplay".

With Ben McDermott at the other end, he pushed the score to 86 for two off the first 10 overs before his partner fell lbw to Imad for 21. The 25-year old cricketer hit another four through square leg on the fourth delivery of the same over.

"Credit goes to Smith", said Azam. Babar combined with Mohammad Rizwan (31 off 33) for a 60-run stand steady the innings after the visitors lost two early wickets. "It was just about timing in the end".

Pakistan, who are now the top-ranked T20I side have not had a good time in the game's shortest format so far.

Haris Sohail came to the crease but only lasted nine balls, gone for six.

Babar Azam was left to piece together the innings with Iftikhar Ahmed before the opener-captain was removed for 50 by a piece of fielding magic from Warner, who threw down the stumps from long-range.

Iftikhar ensured Pakistan post competitive total by smashing 22 off the penultimate over from Richardson. They needed a 3-0 win in over the men in green, like they secured in their preceding series against Sri Lanka, to replace Pakistan at the top position in the standing.

The first T20I in Sydney was abandoned due to rain with Australia reaching 41-0 in 3.1 overs in hunt of a 119-run target in a 15-over match thanks to a brisk 16-ball 37* from skipper Aaron Finch.
