New 'Scream' Movie Reportedly In The Works From Spyglass

Wes Craven, who directed all the Scream films, passed away in 2015, so it's not clear whether this will be a sequel or a reboot.

It would be a shame of Spyglass to take the Scream rights and then ruin the franchise. There's been no word yet of whether this film will be a continuation of the franchise with the return of Neve Campbell and David Arquette, or if it's a complete remake. Kevin Williamson is not writing the screenplay.

Most of the cast has been open to the idea of coming back, but Campbell has expressed doubts about working with someone other than Craven in the past, so who knows.

However, Scream isn't the only horror franchise Spyglass has got its hands on.

Are you excited to see another Scream movie?

Inspired by the real-life serial killer dubbed the Gainesville Ripper (it happened in my hometown when I was in kindergarten), SCREAM was influenced by screenwriter Kevin Williamson's passion for fright flicks such as John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN. (The third season of the Scream show, which Craven and Williamson were not involved in, premiered last summer.) The original Scream arrived at a flawless time in pop culture, with the first wave of slasher films having gotten bogged down in self-parody. But you know, Wes was the heart of the thing. "I think it would be hard to work with another director". A slasher that wasn't afraid to openly mock what it was, being one of the first major films to engaged in meta-humor when it was still new to Hollywood. All in a very respectable manner of course.

Original creator Williamson penned the script for all of the movies with the exception of Scream 3 in 2000, though he did write a draft outline of that film's story. A reboot of Hellraiser from Batman v Superman writer David S. Goyer was announced in May. "I'm not sure they're going to make it, to be honest".
