Renault board ousts Thierry Bollore as CEO

Ousted Renault boss Thierry Bollore hit out at his removal

Renault's Chief Executive Officer, Thierry Bolloré, has been removed from office by the brand's board members with immediate effect.

The change is effective immediately, the French auto group said Friday. She'll be flanked by two new deputy managing directors, Olivier Murguet and Jose-Vincente de los Mozos.

Bolloré has been replaced by Clotilde Delbos (pictured below) who, up until now has been Groupe Renault's chief financial officer.

But Mr Bollore had had an uneasy relationship with Nissan, according to sources familiar with the matter, and Renault and the French state, its key shareholder, have repeatedly emphasised their wish to fix ties and reinforce the alliance. The Japanese vehicle maker recently replaced Chief Executive Hiroto Saikawa and said the company will be led by a three-person team.

Bollore's departure had been speculated on since French daily Le Figaro reported on its website late Tuesday that he had a hard relationship with board chairman Jean-Dominique Senard.

Relations between Renault, which named its finance director as temporary CEO, and Nissan, which picked a new CEO on Tuesday, have been strained since Ghosn's arrest in Tokyo past year on allegations of financial misconduct, which he denies.

"The brutality and the totally unexpectedness of what is happening is stunning", Bollore told financial daily Les Echos.

The shuffle comes days after Nissan Motor Co., Renault's partner in the world's largest automotive alliance, picked a new leadership team. "Operationally, I do not see where the fault is". Toyoda is the president of Toyota.

Today's announcement follows a similar shake-up at Nissan, where the firm's head of its Chinese division was recently made its new CEO.

It is understood that the French government, which holds 15 percent in the company, has pushed for Renault chairman Jean-Dominique Senard to sever connections to the Ghosn era and ease tensions with Nissan; which could potentially lead to renewed talks with rival carmaker FCA over a possible merger.
