PD: Padres pitcher tased after breaking into Peoria home

Jacob Nix notched a 7.04 ERA in nine appearances for the Padres last year

According to a police report, San Diego Padres right-hander Jacob Nix was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing in Peoria, Arizona, this past weekend.

The homeowner reported to police that a man, later identified as 23-year-old Jacob James Nix, entered his home through a doggie door.

Court documents say the Phoenix homeowner shot Nix with a taser and kicked him in the face during the incident, which occurred at about 4 a.m. Sunday, according to ABC 15 and CBS 5.

As Nix and Cosgrove fled, the homeowner fired his Taser at Nix and struck him in the back, according to the police report.

Cosgrove was also drafted by the Padres in 2017, pitching in their minor league system. Nix, 23, was subsequently charged with two counts of criminal trespassing, and was released from Maricopa County jail on $100 bond (via the Associated Press). Nix then entered the home through a doggie door, at which point the owners of the home called 911.

The results were not too kind to Nix, who found himself tased and kicked by a home owner after he attempted to enter said residence through a doggie door.

Online court records show Nix does not yet have an attorney. He is now playing for the Peoria Javelinas, an Arizona Fall League team. Nix and another Padres player, Thomas Cosgrove, were arrested. He has a preliminary court hearing scheduled for October 16.

The Padres organization is aware of the incident and is in communication with the Commissioner's Office and local authorities. The team will not comment on the situation further due to "ongoing legal proceedings".

Nix started nine games for the Padres in 2018 before spending last season rehabbing an elbow injury.
