New Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid joins the RAV4 range next year

Toyota RAV4

If the RAV4 plug-in manages to keep the same fuel tank, it could easily go more than 600 miles; but let's hope Toyota puts some priority on battery capacity and range.

The new warranty sees a 24% increase in the years to 10 years and a 50% increase in miles to 150,000.

Eight vehicles will be eligible for the new warranty: the Avalon Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, Corolla Hybrid, Highlander Hybrid, Prius, Prius Prime plug-in hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, and Mirai fuel-cell vehicle.

According to the Japanese carmaker, all the 2020 models will offer an upgraded battery warranty of 8 years/150,000 miles from the standard 8 years/100,000 miles.

Toyota said, "Unlike any other, the new RAV4 Plug-in will be celebrated by its spirited acceleration, nimble handling and impeccable style".

But, just like every other vehicle maker - and despite a feeling coming from Toyota that plug-in hybrids are not a clever way to go - Toyota has to have a weather eye on upcoming average Carbon dioxide emission regulations which, despite Toyota's hybrid-dominated range, will still be a struggle.

Announced as a 2021 model, the vehicle will celebrate its world premiere on November 20 at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. And it's time for it to get a plug-in hybrid version, which is claimed to be called as the most powerful RAV4 till date.

If the plug-in hybrid RAV4 wants to become the most powerful RAV4 in the lineup, it will need to produce more than 219 horsepower combined, which is what the RAV4 Hybrid makes.

The presentation will be live-streamed on the Internet, and the crossover will be finished in Supersonic Red for the exterior palette.
