Jane Fonda Arrested Over Climate Change Protest

Jane Fonda arrested in climate change strike outside CapitolMore

True to her word, Fonda, sporting a red pea coat and a spiffy checkered cap, was arrested alongside other protesters on the steps of the Capitol building on Friday.

The 81-year-old actress's hands appeared to be zip-tied as she was taken away by police on the steps in front of the Capital Building in the USA capital.

In her post, Fonda called the demonstrations "Fire Drill Fridays".

Capitol police say they have all been charged with "crowding, obstructing or incommoding".

When asked about Friday's incident, Kathleen Rogers, president of the world's largest environmental movement Earth Day, also based in Washington, said she wasn't aware it happened but had previously received numerous e-mail requests suggesting Fonda as a speaker at the mall on Earth Day at the organization's upcoming 50th anniversary.

Fonda was getting involved in protests against inaction on climate change, citing inspiration from the 16-year-old student activist Greta Thunberg.

The Capitol Police has confirmed to E!

"We have to be sure that the crisis that is climate change remains front and center like a ticking time bomb", Fonda told the station.

"Each Friday we will focus on a different aspect of the climate crisis and what needs to be done moving forward", Fonda explained in her letter, inviting celebrities, experts, and people from impacted communities to participate.

"What we're facing is so important and so urgent, it doesn't matter".

The Los Angeles Times claimed that it was her mission to get arrested.

"It so traumatized her that she stopped eating". "And when I read that it rocked me, because I knew that Greta had seen the truth".

Jane Fonda was infamous for her protests against the United States government during the Vietnam War. "And that really hit me".

"So four months is what I could get", she said.

Fonda, forever known as "Hanoi Jane" to those who took offense to her stand against the Vietnam War, criticized Democrats for failing to advance the left's climate agenda.
