Sony Xperia 5 Price in India, Specifications, Comparison (5th September 2019)

Sony's new 'compact' flagship has a 6.1-inch 21:9 display

At a glance, the phone looked so identical to Xperia 1 which is why the phone was originally rumoured as its successor that is fondly referred to as Xperia 2.

It's still oddly long, like its predecessor, but Sony says the Xperia 5's slim, 68mm wide design means it easier to use and means it's no longer a two-handed operation. Also, the "Game enhancer" features improved recording features.

The Xperia 5 comes with Snapdragon 855, but sadly, the Five in the name has nothing to do with 5G - Sony coupled the chipset with the regular X24 LTE modem. The phone also comes with Dolby Atmos sound built-in.

Although not confirmed, it seems the Xperia 2 could feature a slightly smaller screen, upgraded processor and a change to the position of the rear camera. It's quite odd that Sony has chose to skip the Xperia 2, 3 4 and they are jumping straight to 5 for what essentially is a smaller version of the Xperia 1.

Those in the United Kingdom will be able to pre-order the Xperia 5 at some stage in the week commencing September 9.

Finally, you've got IP68 water and dust resistance here, which is good to see. It's paired with 6GB of RAM, and in our short amount of testing time it seemed to load up apps quickly without any wait. The Xperia 5 will be available in four colors - black, blue, gray, and red - and will launch in Europe first in October with pre-orders beginning next week.

There's 128GB of storage on the phone as standard, which you can extend by up to 512GB more with a microSD card.

The triple camera system on the back is made out of a trio of 12MP 16mm, 26mm and 52mm lenses, complemented by an 8MP selfie shooter on the front. Sony today took center stage at IFA 2019 to unveil a slightly compact sibling for its flagship smartphone.
