Pennsylvania Couple Spends $120K That Was Accidentally Put in Their Bank Account

PA Couple Facing Charges After Spending Over $100K Accidentally Deposited in Bank Account: Police

When a Pennsylvania couple woke up to discover $120,000 had accidentally been transferred into their bank account, they made a decision to go on a massive spending spree.

Reports said Robert Williams told police both he and his wife knew the "mislaid money did not belong to them, but they spent it anyway".

However, reports said the couple had already spent most of the cash on a new SUV, two four-wheelers, and a auto trailer.

Police say the Williams also used the money on bills, vehicle repairs, cash purchases and even gave $15,000 to friends in need of money. Instead of contacting the bank about the money, they then allegedly blew the cash in two and a half weeks between June 3 and June 19.

It's said the couple now face three felony charges of theft and receiving stolen property.

The Montoursville couple, Robert Williams, 36, and Tiffany Williams, 35, allegedly spent $107,000 of the money over a two-week length sooner than they had been contacted by the BB&T Financial institution on June 20 to take care of the discipline. According to CBS News, the state trooper wrote in the criminal complaint that the bank contacted Mrs. Williams and she told them that she no longer had the money because she had paid off bills.

Authorities say the couple had already spent most of the money by the time the error was discovered. "She told the bank her husband had spent a great portion of the funds and purchased a four-wheeler", the publication detailed.

Sorry, an accidental deposit into your bank account doesn't mean you get to keep the money. Back in 2009, a New Zealand man escaped to China after millions of dollars were mistakenly deposited in his bank account.

However, $120,000 was eventually put back into the correct account.

"I would check in with the bank first before I didn't anything, I'm not that dumb but some people do stupid things sometimes", neighbor Robert Painton told WNEP. They were arrested and released on $25,000 bail.

Nearly like an episode of ABC's, "What Would You Do?", a Pennsylvania couple received the ultimate test. "She said she would speak to her husband and attempt to construct a repayment agreement".
