Misha Nonoo Defends Meghan Markle Against Backlash: ‘It’s Unjust’

Meghan Duchess of Sussex

Her capsule collection has been created in aid of Smart Works, which provides training, clothing and interviews for women in need.

Meghan became patron of the charity in January of this year, and quickly started work on her fashion collection in secret, teaming up with Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Jigsaw and her close friend and fashion designer, Misha Nonoo.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex poses for a photograph with women dressed in clothes from the Smart Works capsule collection during the collection's launch on September 12, 2019 in London, England. Meghan said, "Once moving to the United Kingdom, it has been deeply important to me to meet with communities and organisations on the ground doing meaningful work and to try to do whatever I can to help them amplify their impact". Women who have job interviews coming up meet with volunteer stylists who help them pick the flawless outfit - and they get to keep the designer clothes for free! The collection's minimalist aesthetic reflects the personal style of a woman who wore a black trouser suit rather than a gown to her first official evening engagement with Prince Harry and sparked a frenzy for Nonoo's "Husband" classic white shirt when she wore one to the Invictus Games in 2017.

The duchess said the project would see an item from the range donated to the charity Smart Works for each one bought by a shopper.

"Since moving to the United Kingdom, it has been deeply important to me to meet with communities and organizations on the ground doing meaningful work and to try to do whatever I can to help them amplify their impact".

The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle had a fitting tribute to Princess Diana as she returned to work this week.

Meghan wore the blouse and a pair of the pants by Jigsaw to the launch.

"I'm sure people probably think, like, 'Things must be so different!' et cetera, et cetera". The designer revealed: "I said a wholehearted yes, not only because I trust everything that she does and her filter and her lens, particularly when it comes to charity and philanthropy, but also because I had heard about Smart Works and their mission".

Nonoo told The New York Times Meghan will do anything for her friends.

"But all I can say is that from my perspective, she has not changed as a friend".

Speaking at the event, Meghan said: "I think it's really key in this day and age that we remember it's not just about the people you know you're supporting, it's about the people you don't know - that you may never know, may never meet".

She may be back to work, but she's also a working mom!
