Meghan Markle Wears Princess Diana’s Earrings at Launch of Her Capsule Collection

The Duchess of Sussex with Amy Pickerill in February

Meghan Markle has officially ended her maternity leave after giving birth to Archie Harrison, and she made her first public outing this week to launch her new Smart Works capsule collection.

Instead, she entered John Lewis on Oxford Street in London via the back door, smart but low-key in a £120 pair of black pants and an £85 white shirt with rolled-up sleeves, to launch the Smart Set, a collection of interview-appropriate clothing for unemployed women looking to enter the workplace.

Among the designs in the collection, Meghan has focused on picking pieces which are essential for those going for an interview or starting a job.

"Since moving to the United Kingdom, it has been deeply important to me to meet with communities and organisations on the ground doing meaningful work and to try to do whatever I can to help them amplify their impact".

For each merchandise purchased, one can be donated to the charity which Meghan turned the patron of earlier this yr.

She then thanked the manufacturers who supported Sensible Works on the challenge, "putting goal over revenue and group over competitors".

Although Duchess Meghan has only been a member of the royal family for a short time, she is paving the way to create a similar impression to the one Princess Diana left on the world. It benefits Smart Works, a United Kingdom charity for women of which Meghan is patron.

Meghan announced the project during her guest editorship of British Vogue, and writing in the fashion bible she said: "The reason I was drawn to Smart Works is that it re-frames the idea of charity as community, which, for me, is incredibly important: it's a network of women supporting and empowering other women in their professional pursuits".

"This is the kind of work that I've been doing for a really long time and to be able to do it here in my new home of the United Kingdom means quite a bit to me", Markle said in her speech. She was greeted at the launch by Jo Bennett, head of buying women's wear & accessories at John Lewis & Partners, and Kate Stephens, CEO of Smart Works.

The Duchess of Sussex wore a gold cuff bracelet and diamond butterfly earrings - treasured pieces from the late People's Princess's collection.

Meghan Markle is diving right back into work after finishing her maternity leave.

For the press conference and photo call, today, Markle teamed the white shirt by Misha Nonoo ($155) with black trousers by Jigsaw ($150) from the five-piece line that she helped to conceive.

Last month, The Duchess of Sussex surprised Smart Works clients during the capsule collection shoot in west London...

Apart from a quick weekend trip to New York City to cheer on her pal Serena Williams in the U.S. Open, Markle has barely spent any time away from her little guy.
