Jerry Rice calls out Antonio Brown after release from Raiders

In a matter of just a few days, Brown has gone from being a member of the Raiders while possibly receiving a team-issued suspension or fine, to playing on Monday night against the Denver Broncos, to asking for a release and later joining the Patriots.

He laughed at the Steelers and laughed at the Oakland Raiders and he laughed at the National Football League, and if you think he cares about the $15 million in guaranteed money he left behind in Oakland on Saturday, he's laughing at you, too. Once to the Buffalo Bills which he sabotaged and the again to the Oakland Raiders. I really looked forward to coaching him, but it's not going to happen.

Brown not only didn't accept the discipline but also released a private conversation with Jon Gruden (illegal, by the way) in which Gruden pleaded with Brown to cut out the nonsense and just play football. "This is about real games that count, and we are going to try and spend as much time as we can together and really get up to speed and lock in with what are roles and responsibilities are". It is too bad Brown was not eligible to play Week 1 against the Steelers as it would have been must-see television.

"I'm not judging anything until I've had a chance to go out and practice and prepare. He contacted me, he told me he wanted play ball here in the Bay Area", Rice said on 95.7 The Game in Northern California. While they only gave up a third and fifth-round pick to acquire him from the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first place, it's still a major waste. Brown said he does and the question is if the Raiders want him. "It's like, do you guys want me to be Raider?" he said.

The disgruntled Brown was traded to Oakland last March and signed a three-year extension with the Raiders. Brown had 686 catches and 9,145 yards receiving the past six seasons in Pittsburgh, the best marks ever for a receiver in a six-year span. They were happy to hand him off to the Raiders. "I wasn't good enough". When AB missed time with frostbite on his feet due to miss using cryotherapy, I was understanding.

He filed two grievances, losing both. There are other receivers (including a Super Bowl MVP) on the roster, a no-nonsense head coach and, in Tom Brady, a quarterback who is the unquestioned leader of the team and whose favorite receiver is undoubtedly Julian Edelman. This is always the game plan for this team.
