England change 2 for final Ashes Test

Australian batsman Steve Smith

Initially, England had named an unchanged squad for The Oval, but it came with the caveat that if all-rounder Ben Stokes was deemed unfit to bowl because of a shoulder injury, then he would play as a specialist batsman, with one of the top order batsman to make way.

Smith was seen wearing a pair of glasses while celebrating with his team mates in a huddle during Australia's victory celebrations after the visitors retained the Ashes with a 185-run win that gave them a 2-1 lead in the series.

England squad: Joe Root (c), Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Joe Denly, Jack Leach, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes.

"We've got the best fast bowler in the world (Pat Cummins) and the best Test batsman in the world", he told Sky Sports.

Roy's omission is no great surprise as he has struggled throughout the series having made his Test debut in the warm-up match against Ireland.

Tim Paine, with former captain Steve Waugh as mentor, is hoping to become the first Australian skipper to win an Ashes series on English soil since 2001. "He's going to be a huge asset for us going forward and we've said from the start we want to make sure we look after him so he's got a lot more years in him of Test cricket, we can't wait to get him back to Australia and unleash him during the summer". Of course, I've not performed as I would have liked but that's part and parcel of Test cricket.

"Experience tells me when you're doing well people try and pick holes in you".

"I've got a feeling he might hit a few balls tomorrow".

"We've not lost anything yet", he said. Of course, we are disappointed not to win the Ashes back but we are fully focused to finish the series 2-2. "As a group last week's result was brilliant and we played very well but the guys are aware this match is bigger than that one, this is our grand final".

Australia retained the Ashes in Manchester a couple of days ago and the visitors celebrated the moment to the hilt later.

"He sent me that pic, I woke up to that pic this morning, saying he'd done it in honour of me", Rogers said on The Grade Cricketer podcast.

"They know there is still unfinished business and we are looking forward to this last Test match".
