Disney+ 'Hawkeye' series eyeing Hailee Steinfeld for lead role

Hailee Steinfeld in Talks for Kate Bishop Role in Hawkeye Disney+ Series

Pitch Perfect and Bumblebee star Hailee Steinfeld has also been offered a lead role in the series. In the Marvel Comics, Kate Bishop is a woman with serious combat and marksmanship skills who becomes the leader of the Young Avengers and, eventually, takes up the mantel of Hawkeye in honor of her teacher. Based on brief glimpses in the trailers, some fans speculated that this role might be filled by Clint's daughter in Avengers: Endgame. And since Marvel's Disney+ shows, unlike their ABC and Netflix titles, will be directly related to/impacted by the MCU, it's quite possible that Steinfeld's Bishop could have a more significant role to play in the coming years. Now Variety is reporting that Steinfeld may have the role.

The younger lady is the third character and first feminine to take the Hawkeye title, after Clint of the Avengers and Wyatt McDonald of the Squadron Supreme. Aja and Fraction's Hawkeye featured a storyline centered on Barton taking Kate under his wing and training her. If the deal goes through, she'll join Jeremy Renner and presumably take over as the MCU's primary archer - because every good superhero team needs that person with a bow and arrow running around as the team's X factor. Also in the works are series based on Marvel characters including Loki, Vision & Scarlet Witch, and Falcon and Winter Solider among others. That will happen in Thor Love and Thunder in fall 2021. If you want to see more of Hailee Steinfeld, she'll next appear in Netflix's Between Two Ferns: The Movie, which drops on September 20, 2019. Plus, she just recently starred on a TV show for the first time as Emily Dickinson in the upcoming Apple TV series Dickinson.
