Britain will leave the EU on time, PM Johnson's adviser Cummings says

The challenges Brexit poses to Britain's economy

The UK Finance Minister Sajid Javid, in a statement on Tuesday, said that there would be a return of duty-free shopping for travelers to the European Union if the country leaves the bloc without a deal.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth gave her approval Monday to legislation seeking to block Prime Minister Boris Johnson from carrying out a no-deal Brexit, his plan to take the country out of the European Union on October 31 without spelling out the terms of the split. Members of Parliament (MPs) were expected to vote against another call by Johnson for a snap general election on Monday.

Brexit, the United Kingdom's most significant geopolitical move in decades, remains in question more than three years since the 2016 referendum, with possible outcomes ranging from a no-deal exit to abandoning the whole endeavour.

After MPs rejected Prime Minister Boris Johnson's second bid to call an early election to solve the Brexit impasse, he is left in limbo heading towards a crucial European Union summit next month, just days before Britain's scheduled exit. He wants an election to break the deadlock. But a new bill, aimed at blocking a no-deal Brexit, received royal assent on Monday. "I'm absolutely undaunted by whatever may take place in parliament", Johnson said in Dublin ahead of talks with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar. Johnson booted them from the Conservative party.

Irish travellers will be able to avail of duty-free shopping when travelling to Britain in the event of a no-deal Brexit, it has emerged.

.

But the main opposition Labour party said it would only back an election once "no deal" was off the table.

A spokesman for Johnson said that parliament would be suspended from Monday evening, meaning that an election is very unlikely before October 31 unless parliament is recalled early.
