Apple slams Google for raising false alarm on iOS security

However, Apple says that those websites had content that was of interest to the Uighur community.

While clarifying the extent of the attack, Apple suggested that its utmost focus is on the security of the users, whatever the nature of the security concerns.

"Google´s post, issued six months after iOS patches were released, creates the false impression of ´mass exploitation´ to ´monitor the private activities of entire populations in real time, ´ stoking fear among all iPhone users that their devices had been compromised".

According to Google, the websites deliver their malware indiscriminately and have been operational for years.

Google research team Project Zero suggested August 29 that an unknown group of hackers were "making a sustained effort to hack the users of iPhones in certain communities over a period of at least two years" by getting targets to visit select websites and then installing "a monitoring implant" onto their devices, according to its report.

And Apple, like Google, won't say if they think Beijing is directly responsible. Apple also stated that it was already in the process of fixing the vulnerabilities in February when Google notified it about the bugs. Practically all versions of iOS 10 through 12 were affected.

Amnesty International has detailed what it describe as "an effort by the Chinese government to wipe out religious beliefs and aspects of cultural identity in order to enforce political loyalty for the State and the Communist Party of China".

Interestingly, it didn't take long for Google to respond to Apple's response. Although the names of those websites have not been revealed, Google said that they got thousands of visitors every week.

Working with Google's Threat Analysis Group, the researchers discovered a total of 14 iPhone vulnerabilities related to five exploits. Has Apple explained to the Uighurs whose phones were invisibly and completely taken over by malicious software that it's okay because "security is a never-ending journey"? Security is also a centrepiece of Apple's first credit card, the Apple Card, which launched last month.

We're expecting three new iPhone 11 smartphones, plus, maybe, the Apple Watch 5 and Apple HomePod 2, along with a wildcard product - possibly a Global Positioning System tracker - and we're also expecting to learn when iOS 13 and iPadOS will become available to the public. The company said that technical research was posted to help people better understand security vulnerabilities and create better defensive strategies. "We will never stop our tireless work to keep our users safe".

Google insists it did not know Android was affected - but it is well aware how it looks.
