One of the world's largest food companies is recalling 39,078 pounds of chicken patty product that it believes may be contaminated with "extraneous materials".

The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Thursday classified the recall as Class 1, the strictest form of recall where use of the product may cause serious health consequences or death. In the meantime, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service has asked that anyone who has purchased these patties discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase.

The problem was discovered after Tyson Foods received consumer complaints.

Taylor Farms Inc., is recalling approximately 342 pounds of breaded chicken products due to a processing defect that may have led to under-cooking of products. They include the number "P-13456" on the back of the packaging. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide. The packages will have the following lot codes: 0319PBF0617, 0319PBF0618, 0319PBF0619, 0319PBF0620, 0319PBF0621, 0319PBF0622, 0319PBF0623, or 0319PBF0600.
