Moment Princess Charlotte sticks tongue out at Royal boat race

Kate Middleton and Prince William

Once they were out at sea, both royals looked very much into winning the competition.

The Duchess of Cambridge tried to persuade Princes Charlotte to wave to the crowds. The six-year-old future King, who donned a sailor hat, happily watched his parents face off in the race onboard a yacht with his maternal grandfather, Michael Middleton.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge competed today in The King's Cup on the Isle of Wight, and Prince George was there to support his parents.

Kate and William each acted as skippers of competing vessels - state-of-the-art Fast-40 boats - for the chance to win the King's Cup, a historic trophy first presented by King George V at Cowes' Royal Yacht Squadron in 1920.

Each boat had a celebrity ambassador and captain onboard, with others taking part including historian Dan Snow, England Women's footballer Fara Williams, comedian John Bishop, Olympic rower Helen Glover and CBBC presenter Katie Thistleton. Third in line to the throne - and now on the verge of growing grown-up teeth - he's basically a little man.

Kate Middleton competed in the sailing regatta, as did Prince William. Kate looked lovely in her casual-cool outfit matching everyone else in a polo T-shirt, a pair of navy shorts and trainers.

William took the honours again during a visit to the German city of Heidelberg in 2017 when he was victorious in a riverboat race against his wife.

The Duchess will support four of her patronages: Action on Addiction, Place2Be, the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, and The Royal Foundation in connection with Her Royal Highness's longstanding work on Early Years.

The Duke and Duchess joined young people from their chosen charities as they took part in a simulated sailing race against other famous people.

Spectators watched the race from a 800-seater grandstand, while footage was also played on screens across the town.
