Man City’s Sane for surgery over damaged ligament

Manchester City's Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero celebrates scoring the opening goal with Manchester City's German midfielder Leroy Sane and Manchester City's Spanish midfielder David Silva during their English Premier League match

"Manchester City FC can confirm that Leroy Sane has damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee", the club statement reads.

He said: "It is incredibly bad news".

Speaking ahead of City's meeting with West Ham (via BBC Sport), Guardiola confessed that he is not certain how long Sane will be unavailable, although history suggests that he will miss the majority of the Premier League season.

City have not put a timescale on the player's return but Ilkay Gundogan and Benjamin Mendy have both had seasons ruined by similar problems in recent years.

"Basically, as all of you know, he is a player of Man City and we don't speak about players who are under contract in another team", he told reporters.

"David has nearly one decade here with the club, in the Premier League".

Bayern are eager to sign new wingers following the departures of veterans Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

More news: Manchester City announce signing of Joao Cancelo from Juventus

As the transfer deadline for Premier League clubs drew ever closer, a switch to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich was mooted for the Germany worldwide.

"He has big respect from his team-mates".

"David has to be himself".

"But what the captain is like depends on what the locker room is like".

"David will be a good captain".

Guardiola said Sane will be evaluated next week.

"Every day I am more convinced that Rodri will be one of the best deals this club has done for many years".
