Labor Party eyes vote of no confidence to remove PM Boris Johnson

Britain will be the 'big losers' in a no deal Brexit, warns European Commission President

It comes after Donald Trump's national security adviser said the United Kingdom would be "first in line" for a trade deal with the U.S., possibly on a gradual "sector-by-sector" basis, after Brexit.

Johnson spoke to Trump on Monday, discussing Brexit, trade and economic issues, his office said.

Several Tory MPs have hit out at the Prime Minister's plan to bring Britain out of the European Union without a deal in October, which could destabilise him further.

Johnson said Tuesday that "In the USA there are all sorts of opportunities we have to open up trade".

"In my experience, the Americans are very tough negotiators indeed and we will do a great deal with them and it will open up opportunities for businesses, particularly services companies in the U.S", Johnson said. The person said that Johnson is prepared to meet with leaders face-to-face to lay out the United Kingdom position, but that no negotiation is really possible until the bloc retreats from its red line on re-opening the Withdrawal Agreement. "It will be a tough old haggle but we'll get there". But he cautioned that grander claims about a trans-Atlantic free trade deal were premature.

That finding is largely in line with other polls showing an increase in support for the Conservatives since Johnson took over from Theresa May, who formally quit last month having failed to deliver Brexit on schedule.

He said both governments could want a "token" trade deal for political reasons. "So it's not impossible to see them announcing on November 1: 'We have a trade deal.' It might not mean an bad lot".

"That would then lock that in and, when the other areas that might be more hard were concluded later, you could combine it in one overall agreement". Britain's Parliament has rejected the existing divorce agreement and the European Union refuses to renegotiate, so a no-deal Brexit appears increasingly likely.

A Government source said Downing Street anticipated that Monday September 9 - when MPs are likely to discuss the report in the Commons - could be the first major legislative showdown over a no-deal Brexit.

The survey also found 88 percent of respondents feel parliament is "out of touch" with the British public, with 89 percent believing MPs "ignore the wishes of voters and push their own agendas" on Brexit - 77 percent also agreed the Queen should "remain above politics and refuse to get involved in Brexit".

At the same time, a legal challenge aiming to prevent Boris Johnson from shutting down parliament to force a no-deal Brexit has been submitted to a Scottish court, according to the BBC.
