Israel plans to attack the Houthis in Yemen

US military drone shot down over Yemen: officials

Officials believe Iran provided Houthi rebels with the missile, which downed the us military MQ-9 drone southeast of Sanaa, capital of Yemen.

A US surveillance drone was shot out of the skies over Yemen this week by a surface-to-air missile the Pentagon believes was given to Houthi rebels by Iran.

A Houthi military spokesman had earlier said that air defences had brought down a us drone.

"We are aware of reporting that a US MQ-9 was shot down over Yemen".

For more than a decade, the USA has waged a drone war against al-Qaida in Yemen, trying to eliminate one of the most risky branches of the terror network. According to the source, the Mossad and Military Intelligence are monitoring Iran's attempts to deliver weapons, including missiles and drones, which could be used for terrorist attacks against the region's maritime network.

The group has taken advantage of a four-year-old war between the Houthi movement and President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's Saudi-backed government to try to strengthen its position in the impoverished country.

The U.S. has repeatedly accused Iran of providing missiles and other military support to the Houthis, an allegation denied by Tehran.

"The rocket which hit it was developed locally and will be revealed soon at a press conference", he said.

The spokesperson also warned the United States-Saudi forces over entering the Yemeni airspace, saying that they will be in for a big surprise in the coming days.

A USA military MQ-9 drone was shot down in Yemen, a US official confirmed to Fox News.

Afterwards, President Trump ordered military strikes on Iranian targets including radar and missile batteries but canceled the order at the last minute due to concerns about casualties.

The drone shootdown comes as tensions between Iran and the United States have risen since Trump's administration past year quit an global deal to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions and began to ratchet up sanctions.
