Google Assistant Beats Alexa & Siri Again!

Amazon Echo just got a tasty Black Friday style price cut

Siri understood 99.8 percent of questions and answered 83.1 percent correctly, while Alexa understood 99.9 percent and answered correctly 79.8 percent of the time.

According to their findings, Google Assistant understood every single query they asked and answered correctly 92.9 percent of the time. According to the eMarketer forecast, 77.6 million people in the USA will own a smart speaker in 2019. "We estimate that 111.8 million people in the U.S. will use a voice assistant at least monthly this year, up 9.5% from 102.0 million in 2018", claims its latest report. The firm characterizes this as "critical mass", although it still represents a minority of internet users (40%). A new estimate from eMarketer pegs the number of monthly users of voice assistants at roughly 112 million, up from 102 million in 2018.

Loup Ventures recently released its semi-annual report on smartphone-based digital assistants, and there is a good news if you also enjoy giving voice commands to your phone, tablet, or speaker.

Most of us might expect Alexa to be best at questions about ordering goods; Loup Ventures said in the Blog Post that Google Assistant actually had the widest lead in the commerce category.

What's more surprising is that Amazon's Alexa also lagged significantly in the commerce category, something you'd think Amazon would have a vested interest in perfecting.

One candidate missing was Microsoft's Cortana. However, Google Assistant correctly answered more questions about product and service information and where to buy certain items. Of course, the smart speaker market is dominated by Amazon Echo series and Google Home series with the ApplePod firmly rotted in the third spot.

Ultimately Google Assistant is in the strongest position and will likely become the dominant voice assistant, with corresponding advertising and commerce implications for marketers and brands.

The research team accounted for this by adjusting the question set to reflect generally shorter queries and the presence of a screen which allows the assistant to present some information that is not verbalized. He is also VP of Strategy and Insights for the Local Search Association.
