Gayle's 299th ODI ruined by rain in Guyana

Suresh Raina and R. Vinay Kumar hug MS Dhoni who leads India to win in tri-series final in West Indies in 2013

Inclement weather forced the abandonment of the first one-day global between the West Indies and India at the Guyana National Stadium on Thursday, after Chris Gayle was made to wait for the hosts´ ODI run-scoring record.

Heavy early-morning rain had already delayed the start of play by two hours, resulting in the match being reduced to 43 overs-per-side.

For West Indies captain Jason Holder, this ODI series represented "a fresh start" after a middling World Cup campaign.

First, he started off by showing off his dance moves to the crowd.

The six-foot five-inch 26-year-old has taken 260 wickets in 55 first-class matches and will be handed his chance to shine on the global stage in the two-match series, which begins on August 22.

West Indies were set to bat first and they struggled from the beginning. Unfortunately, both teams were at the mercy of the elements as rain constantly interrupted the match. Hope came in two overs later, but rains also came back to force the players to the dressing room once again. During the match, the Indian skipper was, however, seen dancing to the DJ's tunes at the Providence Stadium.

On the third day of the game, Shubman Gill became the youngest Indian cricketer to score a first-class double century and combined with Vihari to put India A in the driver's seat. "Either it should rain out or play the full game. he more stops you have, the more you want to be careful to ensure that the players don't injure themselves", Kohli said. "So you have assess them and play accordingly".

Remarkably, it was his slowest ODI innings ever while facing a minimum of 25 balls.

Kuldeep gave India the breakthrough as he dismissed dangerman Gayle who dragged the ball onto his stumps.
