Flights resume from Hong Kong airport after night of chaos

Protesters stage a sit-in rally at the arrival hall of the Hong Kong International airport

Trump said in a tweet on Tuesday, without providing details about when he received the information.

Large-scale demonstrations against the government had forced the airport to temporarily cancel large parts of its flight schedule on Monday and Tuesday, as thousands of protesters filled both the arrival and departure halls. "Protesters in Hong Kong are fighting for that same reason".

However, Chinese state media has stopped short of calling for military action to deal with the protests.

"Our Intelligence has informed us that the Chinese Government is moving troops to the Border with Hong Kong".

Sean Lavin, an American who is in Hong Kong on vacation, said that he and his travel companions are slated to fly out of the airport on Wednesday, but the protests have left that in question.

Hong Kong officials have warned the protesters that they are reaching a point of no return, but demonstrators say that they are resisting totalitarian encroachment by Chinese officials.

Demonstrators who have been protesting for the past nine weeks against Beijing's growing influence in the special administrative region targeted the global airport for a second day on Tuesday. Sovereignty of the land was given to China in 1997 by the British empire who had control of Hong Kong since 1842.

Forward Keys, a flight data company, said the crisis had deterred people from making travel plans to the city, citing a 4.7 percent fall in long-haul bookings to Hong Kong between June 16 and August 9 compared with the same period past year.

"If Hong Kong rioters can not read the signal of having armed police gathering in Shenzhen, then they are asking for self-destruction", the Global Times post warned.

The People's Daily posted a statement on social media saying the People's Armed Police are in Shenzhen prepared to handle "riots, disturbance, major violence and crime and terrorism-related social security issues".

But the editor of China's Global Times newspaper said one of those attacked was one of his reporters who was merely doing his job.

The spokesperson also urged China "to adhere to its allow Hong Kong to exercise a high degree of autonomy" and noted "concerns about the erosion of Hong Kong's autonomy". "Everyone should be calm and safe", referring to the clashes of police and pro-democracy protesters. "We'll see what happens". "I hope it works out for everybody, including China".

"As I said to Carrie Lam during my call last week, we condemn the violence [and] encourage constructive dialogue to find a peaceful way forward", he said on Twitter. I get reports all day.

Trump's comments only underscore the basic class unity between the ruling classes in the US, China and around the world against the resurgence of working-class struggle internationally, of which the protests in Hong Kong are one initial expression.
