Fliers: Flight Attendant So Drunk We Had to Do Her Seat Belt

Julianne March booking

United Airlines confirmed passengers reported the incident on the United Express flight, operated by Air Wisconsin, from Chicago to South Bend, Indiana.

Video shared from the flight shows the flight attendant, who's from the city of Waukesha, slumped over in a seat in the back of the plane while passengers gawk at her.

The plane went on to land in Chicago without issue, according to the Belleville News Democrat, with police and United employees boarding the aircraft to meet the flight attendant soon after.

Passenger Aaron Scherb tweeted United saying March was slurring her speech, couldn't walk straight and she fell asleep in the jump seat.

"All the passengers seem to recognize it too", Scherb continued.

He said March "appeared to pass out" in her seat without fastening her seatbelt for almost the whole flight - which was actually operated by Air Wisconsin, meaning it was an Air Wisconsin crew and flight attendant. According to a statement by Air Wisconsin to ABC News, March is "no longer an employee of the company".

Scherb said March's behavior seemed unusual to him. An initial hearing is set for August 29, with the sentencing range for the charge up to six months.

March was a probationary flight attendant and had been working only a few months.

Scherb was reportedly given a $500 credit or 25,000 free air miles but told the South Bend Tribune he hasn't accepted offer.

"We will continue to cooperate with local authorities and assist them as necessary", the Air Wisconsin rep told the outlet.

"While breathalyzers hopefully aren't needed on airplanes, given the recent incidents with alcohol involving pilots and flight attendants, it might be something that airlines have to consider", he said.

And it appears the regional carrier did indeed take swift and appropriate action.

She was given a breathalyser test, which found her alcohol level to be 0.204 - five times the 0.04 legal limit for flight attendants and others working in aviation. While in early August, a United Airlines pilot faced charges in Scotland over allegedly being drunk prior to a flight to Newark.
