Billionaire: Epstein misappropriated ‘vast sums’ from wealth

Leslie Wexner and Jeffrey Epstein

Wexner has been under fire for his former links to Epstein since the disgraced financier was charged and arrested on July 6 for one count of sex trafficking of minors and one count of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of minors.

Billionaire businessman Leslie Wexner, a major philanthropist to Jewish causes, said that alleged sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein "misappropriated vast sums of money" from him. In the letter, Wexner also noted that the amount was only a portion of the funds that Epstein had allegedly misappropriated.

Wexner, who is also the founder of L Brands, a fashion retailer, said he chose to sever ties with Epstein in 2007 when allegations surfaced that he had sexually abused underage girls.

Add wrongly taking almost $50 million from billionaire Leslie Wexner to the growing list of allegations facing sex offender, and recently arrested, financier Jeffrey Epstein. "In that process, we discovered that he had misappropriated vast sums of money from me and my family".

During Wexner's almost 20-year relationship with his financial advisor, Epstein was given power of attorney and was reportedly involved in the model-selection process for Victoria's Secret.

Lawyers for Epstein did not immediately return Business Insider's request for comment on Wexner's letter.

"I am embarrassed that, like so many others, I was deceived by Mr Epstein", Wexner said in his letter.

"It was agreed that he should step back from the management of our personal finances", Wexner said in the letter.

"This was, frankly, a tremendous shock, even though it clearly pales in comparison to the unthinkable allegations against him now", wrote Wexner.

"We discovered that he had misappropriated vast sums of money from me and my family", Wexner said in the August 7 letter.

"Mr. Epstein represented that he had various well-known and respected individuals both as his financial clients and in his inner circle", Wexner wrote. Epstein's $46 million donation, however, was made to the YLK Charitable Trust, a much smaller foundation that had been set up shortly before the payment.

Addressed to the "Wexner Foundation Community", the letter portrays the L Brands Inc. founder as being in the dark about Epstein's alleged wrongdoing.

The allegations of fraud come as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ordered a state criminal investigation of a Palm Beach sheriff and former Palm Beach state attorney over their handling of Epstein's 2007 sex abuse case.

Epstein has been a registered sex offender in Florida since 2008 as part of a non-prosecution agreement he signed.

In 2008 Epstein took a controversial nonprosecution plea deal in Miami, resulting in an 18-month sentence for solicitation of prostitution involving an underage victim.
