Attendant on flight to South Bend charged with public intoxication

'Drunk' flight attendant 'passed out in her seat and slurred through the safety announcement'

A flight attendant working a Chicago to South Bend flight was charged with misdemeanor public intoxication.

Julianne March, 49, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, was arrested and transported to the St. Joseph County Jail on August 2.

He said March was leaning against the galley and not making any eye-contact with the passengers as they boarded the United Express flight, the regional branch of United Airlines.

Scherb wrote in a follow-up tweet, "All the passengers seem to recognize it too".

- One Air Wisconsin flight attendant is allegedly out of a job after being intoxicated while recently on duty in the high skies, reportedly slurring the safety announcement, dropping things, stumbling around and ultimately falling asleep in the jump seat.

She apparently made "slurred" security announcements.

ABC News cited passengers saying that March did not get up during the whole flight and did not secure the cabin.

"We expect our regional carriers to take appropriate action as required when issues like these happen with their employees", a United Airlines spokesperson told the network.

Under Federal Aviation Administration guidelines, the alcohol limit for all aviation-sensitive positions - including pilot, flight attendant, and mechanic - is.04. Nevertheless, he said he has not accepted the bid. Dan said that March's phone rang multiple times without being answered.

"[That] to me was the most concerning part because the pilot wasn't able to communicate with the lone flight attendant and took off anyway", he said.

'We will continue to cooperate with local authorities and assist them as necessary'.

When the plane touched down in IN, officers removed March from the place after smelling alcohol, court documents say.

March was given a breathalyzer test and her alcohol level was 0.204, five times the legal limit for flight attendants and other aviation positions of 0.04.

According to the affidavit obtained by the Belleville News-Democrat, the flight attendant told police she drank two vodka "shooters" before work.

March was a probationary flight attendant and had been working only a few months.

Forty-nine-year-old Julianne March of Waukesha, Wisconsin, faces an August 29 initial hearing after being charged Thursday. "Legally and with regards to regulatory agencies, this is an Air Wisconsin issue". On July 31, a Delta Airline pilot was arrested in Minnesota and accused of being drunk.
