The message reads, "Important Battery Message, Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery".

iFixit compared the practice to having a "Check Oil" light in a vehicle that can only be deactivated at a Ford dealership.

IFixit says this software effectively cripples third-party fix businesses, forcing customers to have their devices repaired or refurbished - often at a much higher cost - by Apple itself.

'It's not a bug; it's a feature Apple wants, ' writes the company in a blog post.

Gizmodo notes that the software lock affects the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and XS Max running iOS 12. "Health information is not available for this battery".

Apple has made efforts to suppress third party repairs throughout the last several years, saying they could damage devices. This number increased among Apple fans.

The company will launch three iPhone 11 models this year.

The only two ways around that are to either go to an official Apple fix shop or do some careful micro welding to "transplant" the protection circuitry to the new battery, even if it's an original Apple one from another device.

If Apple is working on foldable devices, you can bet the company won't release anything until it's absolutely sure its products ready.

While seeing a foldable iPhone would be something, do take note that this research is treated more like speculation.

Not surprisingly, it found that newer and more expensive smartphone models usually support more network capabilities, like newer versions of the 4G standard and even 5G.

As batteries in all phones and gadgets age, they become less effective. Previously, Apple technicians were asked to refuse to fix devices without Apple's batteries. Forbes compiled earlier iPhone release dates, with the iPhone XS arriving on Friday, September 21, 2018; the iPhone 8 on Friday, September 22, 2017; the iPhone 7 on Friday, September 16, 2016; and the iPhone 6S on Friday, September 25, 2015.

Over a third of consumers surveyed by UBS expressed "reasonably high" interest in purchasing a folding smartphone, and although many were still concerned about paying more for a folding device, Apple fans showed a higher overall interest in folding devices along with a willingness to pay a premium for them - up to $600 more than the price of a normal flagship iPhone.
