Watch Moment Angels Complete No-Hitter While Honoring Tyler Skaggs

LA Angels Throw No Hitter in Game Honoring Tyler Skaggs

It was chill-inducing, and happened while the players wore Skaggs' last name and No. 45 on the back of their jerseys.

After wining the incredibly emotional game, the Angels all returned to the pitcher's mound, upon which they laid all their #45 jersey in honor of Skaggs.

After closing out the first half of the season on the road and then going into the All-Star break, the Angels did not play their first home game after Skaggs' death until Friday night when they hosted the Seattle Mariners. Taylor Cole opened the game with two flawless innings. I've had a couple of those myself. "We're going to do what we can to honor him".

Even the Angels' bats did their part to honor Skaggs. You walk by his locker every day.

The night began with a touching pre-game ceremony that included a video tribune, a 45-second moment of silence and Skagg's softball-coach mother throwing a strike on a ceremonial first pitch after Debbie Skaggs used a finger to write her late son's initials on the pitcher's mound. Gordon hit his only home run that season to lead off the bottom of the first in Miami's first game after Fernandez's death.

On the first pitch Trout saw while wearing Skaggs' jersey, he launched a 454-foot bomb to left-center. After an uncommonly slow trot around the bases, Trout pointedly looked up in the direction of Skaggs' family in the stands.

Cole also opened flawlessly on the mound. Whether you're his teammate, part of his family, or just a fan like the rest of us, there's no forgetting what you're seeing right now. The reliever pounded his chest and pointed at the sky when Kole Calhoun caught the final out of the second.

While the Angels eventually will settle into the rhythms of the season, Skaggs' presence will be felt throughout the stadium, from his intact locker to the large likeness of the well-liked pitcher now displayed prominently on the centre field wall.

A fan memorial outside the front entrance continues to grow. Most of the Angels saw the memorial in person for the first time when they returned from a hard road trip and the ensuing All-Star break. Forty-five will always be in my mind. "That's fine. We're human beings".
