UK's Labour Party moves closer to opposing Brexit

Britain's opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn speaks during a rally in London in this

Labour peer and TNE columnist Andrew Adonis tweeted: "Jeremy's letter is unsatisfactory as it doesn't rule out Labour seeking to negotiate a fantasy "better Brexit" after a general election. Labour supports a referendum on any Tory deal and will campaign for Remain".

That majority was lost and the Tories had to fall back on support from the Democratic Unionist Party in a bid to get their business through, not an altogether successful operation.

Corbyn acknowledged the issue of Brexit "has been divisive in our communities and sometimes in our party too".

Corbyn has suffered and survived two major attempts to oust him from the leadership but has made clear he will stick to his guns come rain or shine.

Politicians from across the political divide have said that Labour still isn not doing enough to stop Brexit.

Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May is stepping down this month after failing to get her divorce plan through parliament.

Widdecombe, who once attacked her former boss, the ex Home Secretary Michael Howard in the Commons, told me: "We are all grown-ups now". Johnson, who says he will take Britain out of the European Union with or without a deal, is favourite.

"I've asked repeatedly of Jeremy Corbyn, what will be Labour's policy at a general election?"

However, if Labour took power, negotiated its own Brexit deal and then held a referendum, the party's position would depend on the deal.

Brexit has brought down Prime Minister Theresa May, who failed three times to get the divorce deal she agreed with the European Union ratified by parliament.

With Labour struggling in some opinion polls, some in the party want it to adopt a clearer message to tackle the twin challenges from the pro-EU Liberal Democrats and the Brexit Party, led by veteran eurosceptic Nigel Farage.

Phil Wilson, Labour MP and a People's Vote supporter, cautiously welcomed the news but said that Jeremy Corbyn needed to actively campaign for a People's Vote.

Most businesses and economists think a no-deal Brexit would plunge Britain into recession as customs checks take effect at United Kingdom ports and tariffs are imposed on trade between the United Kingdom and the EU.

Trump also renewed criticism of May's handing of Brexit.

"I think it's very important that we have a strong relationship with our most important ally".
