Trump's Miami ICE Raids Will Reportedly Begin Sunday, July 14

The Trump administration is to begin rounding up and deporting thousands of migrants living in the US illegally this weekend according to

Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids start Sunday, and the order is to remove people who are in the United States illegally. Activists claim there are reports from Thursday of such raids being conducted in the Californian counties of Sonoma and Alameda.

"ICE staff in Miramar have apparently gone over to Immokalee and they're basically starting to stage to begin these raids but I don't have any first-hand information", Wasserman Schultz said. In at least ten major cities authorities reportedly plan to target undocumented immigrants with deportation orders.

Mark Morgan, then-acting head of ICE, defended the raids aimed at migrant families in an interview with NPR last month, saying his agency is only enforcing the law.

"As always, ICE prioritizes the arrest and removal of unlawfully present aliens who pose a threat to national security, public safety and border security", said ICE spokesperson Alathea Smock in a statement Thursday.

The acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director at the time, Thomas Homan, said Schaaf was "no better than a gang lookout yelling 'police!' when a police cruiser comes in the neighborhood".

"I have an obligation to do it", Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday.

ICE had planned to arrest and deport families with court-ordered removals in 10 cities in late June, according to a senior immigration official.

"What we have seen from this president are continued attacks on our immigrant communities since he launched his campaign", Mucarsel-Powell said. They also directed anyone wanting to help the immigrant community to donate to the Denver Immigrant Legal Services Fund, which helps provides free legal counsel to people who face possible deportation. But others have criticized drawing resources away from the border at a time when the Border Patrol is detaining four times the number of people it should. "If it is done, that is to create a climate of fear...making people feel they are likely to be deported".

"I've never seen anything like this, where they're highlighting an operation in advance", said John Sandweg, who headed ICE under President Barack Obama.

The threatened arrests come after apprehensions of migrants on the southwest border hit a 13-year high in May before easing in June as Mexico increased immigration enforcement.

Administration officials told The Associated Press that the operation remains in flux and it's possible it could begin later. Some might stay in hotel rooms because of space constraints until travel papers are arranged.

The postponement last month occurred amid rising political pressure from Congress and following a 12-minute phone call with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

She said she was hoping that Hispanic evangelicals who helped Trump get elected in 2016 would appeal to him to call off the arrests.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also weighted in on Twitter, urging people to share Spanish-language guidelines such as "toma fotos y videos" - meaning take photos and videos. "Really throughout this administration, we've been doing know-your-rights and just trying to inform people what their constitutional rights are because the constitution says 'persons.' It doesn't say anything about immigration status as to the civil rights folks have in this country", Piedra said. "Judicial warrants are from a court", Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
