The official YouTube app returns to Amazon's Fire TV

It's not quite clear how the feud between the two companies truly began, but it appears they have both buried the hatchet.

Amazon wanted you to buy its Chromecast competitor hardware, Fire TV, for its streaming service (and others with Fire TV support) a questionable play, with Chromecast devices already nearly ubiquitous in many markets and we're happy to see the end of. Android TV users can download the Prime Video app from Play Store.

The rollout comes months after the companies teased the move in an announcement back in April. YouTube TV and YouTube Kids are still headed to Fire TV later this year.

The cold war between Amazon and Google began to thaw previous year, but the icy relationship between the companies has been a nuisance for far too long already.

The two have since spent the last few months working to patch things up and bring their services back to users on both platforms. No more sketchy workarounds or shamefully switching to that hastily purchased Fire TV just to watch The Expanse.

Today's press releases make no mention of YouTube being returned to the Echo Show, nor do they mention Amazon Prime coming to Google's rival Nest Hub smart displays.

By end of this week, Amazon's second-generation Fire TV Stick, their Fire TV Stick 4K, the Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick Basic Edition and Fire TV Edition smart TVs will all get support for the official YouTube app. Amazon says it will extend support to even more of its hardware in the future. Prime Video also offers access to 4K titles included with Prime at no additional cost and options to rent or purchase titles or choose from more than 150 Prime Video Channels including Showtime, HBO, CBS All-Access, Cinemax and STARZ.

The monthly fee raised to $40 for new customers, though existing customers will continue to pay $35, as before.
