Telstra And CommBank Are Borked Across Australia

"We'll keep you updated as we know more".

The Commonwealth Bank said the outage took out some of its ATMs and Eftpos services, as well as some in-branch services and CommSec logins. "There is no need to call us if you are experiencing problems with these services".

An ANZ spokesperson has confirmed it is also experiencing outages, suggesting the problem might be "telco-related", while a NAB spokesperson confirmed "sporadic outages" relating to Eftpos but not ATM services in New South Wales and Queensland.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia said some services are back to normal and it thanked customers for their patience.

Greg McKenna, chair of the Police Bank and a Business Insider Australia contributor, has speculated that a Telstra outage might be an underlying cause of the disruption. However, it only appears to be affecting low-value transactions.

Westpac and its subsidiary St George have tweeted that some branches, ATMS and services in Sydney are not working and it is working with external providers to restore services.

Most customer services have now been restored, and we're working with our customers on the remaining few.

"We are aware of an issue affecting some of our services".

The spokesperson also said the cause of the problem is not internal but due to "one of [its] telecommunication providers".

People in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and more had reported issues with withdrawing cash or using electronic payment services.

"Very rare occurrence for CBA so I'm not going to jump up and down throwing a tantrum like a child on social media because I can't have my way all the time".

"Telstra has advised us the network connection is back up and running", Woolworths told AAP, offering an apology to customers for the delay.

The supermarket giant says a Telstra network issue means its stores are having to process payments manually.

"We're working closely with Telstra to rectify the network issue as quickly as possible".
