Special counsel Robert Mueller's hearing could be delayed

Mueller hearing might be delayed and lengthened so more members can question him

House Democrats are considering a delay of special counsel Robert Mueller's high-profile hearing next week, a development that comes amid concerns over the short length of the scheduled hearings before two committees.

The agreement to delay the hearings in exchange for extended testimony is not finalized, the sources said, and lawmakers are still negotiating.

Mueller, who oversaw the federal investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 USA presidential election, is now expected to testify July 24 before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees, sources familiar with the plan said on the condition of anonymity because talks are continuing.

However it has been pushed off until July 24 from July 17, Politico and other outlets reported.

The Judiciary Committee also sought to interview former Mueller aides Aaron Zebley and James Quarles behind closed doors.

Special counsel Robert Mueller spoke at the Department of Justice on May 29 about the Russian Federation investigation.

"Mueller, who investigated Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and issued a report finding no evidence of collusion with President Trump, has been scheduled to testify before both the Judiciary and Intelligence committees after being subpoenaed by the panels last month", adds the website. The committee is comprised of 24 Democratic members and 17 Republican members.

Mueller said because of longstanding Justice Department regulations that a sitting president can not be indicted, his team of investigators didn't consider trying to indict Trump.

With just two hours of testimony slotted for each panel, rank and file members of the 41-member Judiciary panel were concerned they might get to play no role, Politico reported.
