Robert Mueller and lawmakers agree to delay hearing for 1 week

Robert Mueller Should Testify Publicly

Mueller, who oversaw the federal investigation into alleged Russian interference within the 2016 USA presidential election, is now scheduled to testify on July 24 earlier than the Home Judiciary and Intelligence committees, the panels' chairmen mentioned in a press release.

His appearance was thrown into disarray when lawmakers complained about the time allotted for committee members to ask questions.

The agreement gives Mueller an extra hour to testify before the Judiciary panel before he gives two hours of testimony to the Intelligence Committee.

The House Judiciary and Intelligence committees have been negotiating to allow lawmakers more time to grill him.

The sizable Judiciary Committee will now have three hours with Mr. Mueller, up from roughly two, allowing most of the lawmakers on the panel to ask questions. After a brief break, the House Intelligence Committee will convene for additional public testimony beginning at 12:00 pm.

However, lawmakers are banking on public testimony to reveal the contents of the report to Americans who have not read it. Zebley, who is considered to be Mueller's closest associate, served as the prosecutor's chief of staff when he was F.B.I. director and functioned in a similar role during the special counsel's investigation, coordinating the legal teams. It said no collusion, and it said, effectively, no obstruction. Mueller also said there was not enough evidence to establish a criminal conspiracy between Trump's presidential campaign and the Kremlin. He will then testify before the House intelligence committee in a separate hearing.

Trump and Barr had opposed to Mueller testifying before the Congress. Many people have chalked this up to Mueller's by-the-book personality and his obvious desire not to get caught up in the partisan whirlwind that has developed around the report and the ongoing question of whether or not to begin impeachment proceedings against the President.

Republican protests about the arrangements boiled over earlier this week, when Republicans accused Schiff of upstaging the Judiciary Committee, despite its primary jurisdiction over special counsel investigations.

"I appreciate news the chairman has taken seriously the concerns Judiciary Republicans raised this week, The new format will allow all Judiciary Republicans to question the special counsel on July 24", he tweeted. But Democrats have had little success so far in their attempts to probe his findings as the White House has blocked several witnesses from answering questions. The people requested anonymity to discuss the private negotiations and because the talks were still fluid.

That means the committees may have to go through a lengthy court process to get more information.
