R. Kelly was arrested Thursday night (July 12) in Chicago on federal sex crime charges.

He was arrested after a 13-count federal indictment was handed down earlier Thursday in federal court for the Northern District of IL.

Fitzpatrick says the 13-count indictment includes charges of child pornography, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice.

Kelly's attorney, Steve Greenberg, confirmed to the Sun-Times that the singer had been arrested and his publicist told WBBM that a press conference would be held on Friday morning.

Kelly has already been charged with over 20 counts of sexual abuse.

The 52-year-old singer was taken into custody by NYPD detectives and Homeland Security Investigators in Chicago on Thursday afternoon, officials have shared with NBC's NY affiliate.

After a dramatic trial, Kelly was acquitted in 2008 of child pornography charges, also in Chicago. However, the singer pleaded not guilty for the charges.

During a June court appearance, Kelly pleaded not guilty to the 11 counts of sexual assault.

His attorneys could not immediately be reached for comment on the federal charges. The series followed the BBC's "R Kelly: Sex, Girls & Videotapes", releasedin 2018, that alleged the singer was holding women against their will and running a "sex cult".

The 52-year-old has always denied allegations of sexual misconduct.

As three of the victims were allegedly underage at the time of the incident, this led to charges of sexual abuse of minors and attempted assault, among others. Fitzpatrick said Kelly's arraignment date and time had not yet been set.

"I didn't do this stuff", Kelly told CBS News.
