Outage problems at mobile service providers causing voice service issues

While the website does not include an estimated time of fix, the company says teams are "working hard to address the interruption as quickly as possible".

Bell Canada says its customers began experiencing problems Sunday afternoon as a result of problems with other carriers, which weren't identified, but the service issues were resolved around 10 p.m. Sunday.

"The WPS Communications Division can confirm that similar to other 911 centres across Canada, our agency experienced intermittent dropped 911 calls from customers of mobile service providers who reported network outages", said Const. Jay Murray of the Winnipeg Police Service, in an email to CTV News. Rogers posted a notice about the issue to its online customer-service forum on Sunday.

The outages mainly affected Rogers and Freedom Mobile customers.

Telus and Bell customers are unaffected, but will obviously have issues placing calls to Rogers customers at certain times. The outages as they impact 9-1-1 calls are serious.

According to Rogers, they began restoring the system last night. Shaw did not immediately respond to questions about 911 service. Text messages, Internet and data services were not affected.

Rogers announced on Sunday evening that it was working on a solution to the problem, but as of Monday morning, no updates have been provided about when service will be restored.
