Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle will attend Wimbledon together

Serena Williams

This year's match marks their second joint Wimbledon visit, after they sat front row in the royal box last summer for the finals of the tennis tournament.

Serena Williams is hoping to equal the world record of 24 grand slam titles won by a female player, which was set by Australian Margaret Court and has stood since the 1970s.

This also won't be the last royal appearance at Wimbledon.

Kate, wearing a bespoke green D&G midi dress, and Meghan - in a white pleated skirt and blouse - arrived to the venue in south-west London earlier today separately, with Kate thought to have lunched with former champions beforehand.

Meghan is good friends with finalist, Serena Williams, who is playing against Simona Halep in this year's final.

Kensington Palace confirmed their attendance on Twitter, stating: "The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, and The Duchess of Sussex will attend the Ladies' Singles Final at The Championships, Wimbledon on Saturday 13th July". "Every time I see her name attached to anything I don't read it".

Fans of the royals blasted Meghan on social media for reportedly banning anyone from taking her photograph at the event. Low moments, high moments, she's always there.

Prime Minister Theresa May also watched the action, joined by her husband Philip.

But the oil and gas safety engineer was just taking a selfie on his iPhone with the players in the background and was baffled to be asked by a minder: "Please give them privacy".

The seven-time Wimbledon victor has a total of 23 grand slams under her belt - just one away from Australian player Margaret Court's record of 24 which has stood since the 1970s. The pair headed to King Power Royal Charity Polo Day on Wednesday, which took place at Billingbear Polo Club in Wokingham, Surrey.

Fans cheered loudest for Meghan and Kate.
