Instagram wants you to think before you post The second feature that Instagram has "started rolling out is powered by AI that notifies people when their comment may be considered offensive before it is posted". From now on, the platform will guilt-trip everyone who tries to post a nasty comment.

But, instead of blocking posts or banning offenders, Mosseri has announced that new tools will be rolled out on Instagram to curb the spread of bullying online.

In a blog posted to Instagram, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said the platform is committed to helping the social media industry combat the potential dangers that exist in online interactions.

Instagram says early tests of this feature have shown that it encourages some people to reflect on their comment and undo it to send something nicer.

Instagram is taking a hard line on bullying. As you may remember, the platform introduced some AI-powered features back in 2017 as an attempt to fight online bullying.

Instagram is inviting users to think again before posting unkind comments with a new tool created to curb bullying on the social media platform.

The company said young people are often "reluctant to block, unfollow, or report" bullies for fear of escalating the incident.

When it comes to posts, the user will have the ability to review any comment that the bully writes on one of their photos or videos. "Some of these actions also make it hard for a target to keep track of their bully's behavior".

"Soon, we will begin testing a new way to protect your account from unwanted interactions called Restrict". When a user restricts someone, for example, that poster can see only their comments on the user's post, according to the company.

Online bullying is a trend which plagues social media. Instagram is calling this feature "Restrict", and it allows you to ... well ... restrict an account so that only you and that user will be able to see their comments moving forward. So, Instagram has now added two new features, one AI-based and the other relies on users themselves.

Facebook already knows more about us that we know about ourselves, and it has designs on someday controlling the money we all spend.
