Federer beats Nadal to reach record 12th Wimbledon final

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer to meet in Wimbledon after 11 years

The Swiss, chasing a ninth Wimbledon crown and 21st Grand Slam title, will face world number one Novak Djokovic after a 7-6 (7-3) 1-6 6-3 6-4 win.

Eight-time champion Roger Federer will play top-seeded title holder Novak Djokovic in the men's Wimbledon final after upstaging Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.

Felt like just as much of a classic contest, though, one that anyone present is not likely to forget.

"It was tough at the end".

Djokovic fought off two break points, via a 23-shot rally, in the fifth game.

That is well as I've seen him play in a long time.

"I think today the backhand didn't work as good as in the previous rounds". So he deserve it. But as we've come to expect from Federer and Nadal over their 40 career matches, a few on clay notwithstanding, the tennis was enthralling and tense through the last ball.

Top seed and four-time victor Djokovic reached his sixth Wimbledon final, and 25th at the majors, with a nervy 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Spain's 23rd seed Roberto Bautista Agut.

As entertaining as that first semifinal was - including a 45-stroke point won by Djokovic - it was merely a tasty appetizer ahead of the day's delectable main course.

"I will watch Federer and Nadal". In 2008 Trevor Immelman won the Masters, Carlos Sastre finished first in the Tour de France, Fernando Torres scored the victor in the European Championship final and David Haye became undisputed world cruiserweight champion.

Nadal fended off a fourth match point with another sublime victor but Federer sealed it at the fifth time of asking - holding his arms aloft as Nadal fired a backhand long.

Federer is impeccable on his serve as ever.

Had he taken one of two break points in the third game of the second set, he might have pulled away, but the engine began to misfire a little and Nadal raced through the next four games to level the match. As Federer went back on the court to wave and pump his fists in appreciation, a discouraged-looking Nadal changed out of his sweat-soaked shirt, quickly packed up his bag and headed for the exit.

There was no rain break, no twilight five-set drama and no Wimbledon trophy on offer on Friday but none of that bothered ageless Swiss maestro Roger Federer.

"It's always very, very cool to play against Rafa here, especially [as we] haven't played in so long", Federer said. "But was late." Nadal said.

Nadal took Federer down in straight sets in the semifinals of the French Open in June, CBS Sports reported. (That's nearly certainly true.) They insist they want to win Wimbledon for the sake of winning Wimbledon, not as a matter of comparison.

"The same time is great to be part of this rivalry, be in the middle of these three players that achieved that much in this sport in the same era".

"It is something that is going to be hard to see again", he said. "We are not done, so. things continue".

This is the second straight meeting of the 20 Grand Slams holder and 18 majors victor in Grand Slam. Walking to his changeover chair, Djokovic nodded and waved his racket, then his right hand, at the crowd.

Castle said: "I wouldn't say they are making the rest look silly, but they are putting themselves on a different level compared to everyone in the history of the game, there is no doubt about that at this stage".

But the group are now free to party for the rest of the weekend after he was swept aside by defending champion Novak Djokovic in four sets.

Federer won his first Wimbledon in 2003, beating Mark Philippoussis in the final. Instead, those pals were sitting in a guest box at Centre Court on Friday. "He played really well", Djokovic said.
