Delta plane made emergency landing after engine failed during flight

Plane passenger films viral video showing dramatic engine fault in mid-air

"After we heard the boom, we just saw all this smoke come up into the cabin and that's when we really started freaking out", passenger Avery Porch told Baltimore's WMAR-TV.

The flight made an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International in North Carolina around 2:27 p.m. according to ABC News, the report said.

"Christine and I were on that plane yesterday, thinking we're going to have a nice relaxing few days off the road, and it looked like an engine flamed out", Barnes said in a statement.

Delta provided passengers with a $30 food voucher while they waited to be re-routed on alternative flights.

In addition to the flight crew, 148 passengers were onboard the MD-88, which was bound for Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI).

Video shows a metal part inside one of the engines.

A day after a Delta Airlines flight was forced to land in North Carolina due to mechanical failure, a passenger who was onboard that flight shared a video of the frightful engine-that-couldn't.

Some passengers reported hearing a loud noise.

Another passenger said: "After, the cabin filled with smoke and seat belt signs went on and off, and you could smell something was burning". "It started slowing down a bit, the air cut off".

"I just pulled out my phone and I knew I didn't have service but I just texted my mom ..."

"I had a weird, eerie sense of calm over me, like I nearly knew that they were going to take care of it, and they did", Porch told the station.

Gizmodo has reached out to Delta Air Lines for further comment on this incident, and we'll update if we hear back.

Delta runs 5,400 flights daily across 52 countries. Delta said the customers were being placed on a different aircraft.
