Arsenal, Man Utd boost as target breaks silence over future

Southampton's Mario Lemina attracting interest from Arsenal and Manchester United

The 25-year-old Gabon worldwide completed a £15.4m transfer from Juventus a couple of summers back but eventually lost his place under new boss Ralph Hasenhüttl.

The Gabon global has been hampered by injury problems over the past two years and has struggled to hold down a regular first team place with the defensive midfielder making just 18 Premier League starts last season.

The club will at least want to get their money back as they look to cash in on Lemina, who has not been included in Southampton's 26-man squad for their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Lemina had a chat with Southampton manager Ralph Hassenhuttl, telling him that he is interested in a future away from the club.

You absolutely want to leave your club, but you have another 3 years contract and you come out of an up-and-down season, is that not a bit risky?

"If I get the opportunity to play in it this season, why not, but I am truly looking to find consistency again, to become an important player in a team again with big objectives".

'We have very good discussions with the club. I was also very frustrated by my injury which went on for 3 months, so I would really like to discover something else. I want to start afresh. We are in agreement. I would prefer to leave on good teams, loyal to what was said.

Lemina has largely featured at the heart of the midfield at St Mary's, but he has shown in the past that he can feature on the right side of the defence while also being deployed on the wings.

United are in the market for a central midfielder following the departure of Ander Herrera to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
