Apple to ditch butterfly keyboard, replace it with scissor mechanism

Apple is about to update its entry-level MacBook Pro, FCC filing confirms

The new keyboard is said to feature glass fiber to make the keys stronger and stop debris and dust from getting inside the mechanism. Indeed, Kuo's predictions usually end up being true, but we should wait for an official announcement from Apple to know for sure if the scissor-switch keyboard will be implemented.

In a statement to MacRumors, Kuo says that, "Though the butterfly keyboard is still thinner than the new scissor keyboard, we think most users can't tell the difference".

Since its debut in 2015, the butterfly keyboard has been the target of a number of complaints focusing on everything from its reliability to its comfort of use. Basically, if crumbs or similar items slipped under the keys of a butterfly keyboard and disabled one key, Apple would have to replace the entire keyboard in order to fix it.

The company also launched extended repairs for earlier versions of the butterfly keyboards. Kuo says that an all-new scissor switch design will arrive with this year's MacBook Air refresh. Note, the scissor switch keyboard isn't anything new for Apple as they used this layout before 2015.

The butterfly keyboard has been controversial ever since it was introduced, as it was prone to problems such as repeated and skipped key presses.

Pretty much because his 15-inch MacBook Pro exploded only a few days before Apple announced the recall program. This comes after several user complaints about the first two generations of Butterfly keyboards that were hard to maintain and had issues while typing. The new keyboard is more expensive than an average laptop keyboard but he expects it to be cheaper than the butterfly components. However, Kuo believes that the new keyboard, together with the rest of the specs, will make the 2019 MacBook Air update more than just a spec-bump predicted by rumors. Hopefully, this upcoming keyboard will offer more stability than a butterfly mechanism, and also offer greater comfort.

Users are relieved that Apple has finally chose to ditch the butterfly keyboard. "We've listened to our users.' But they really haven't", he said. It took four years to admit there is something wrong.
