Air Canada flight diverted to Hawaii after turbulence, minor injuries reported

According to an Air Canada spokesperson the plane experience "un-forecasted and sudden turbulence", forcing the plane to land in Honolulu. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Honolulu airport.

A spokesperson for Air Canada told CTV News, "Preliminary information indicates there are about 25 people who have sustained minor injuries". Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokeswoman Shayne Enright said injuries included cuts, bumps, bruises, neck pain and back pain.

Flight AC33 was diverted to Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport around 6:46 a.m. local time, where medical staff were on standby to examine the injured.

"We hit turbulence and we all hit the roof and everything fell down, and stuff ... people went flying", passenger Jess Smith told CBC News.

The number of passengers on the plane totalled 269.

"There was no warning and then half of them, their head hit the roof all at once", he said.

A case of severe turbulence in June on a flight from Kosovo to France was captured on video, showing a flight attendant hitting the ceiling and another praying.

Gregor says crew members asked for medical personnel to meet the plane at the gate. Several people were injured.

The flight had originated from Toronto and was reportedly carrying 268 passengers and crew.

The airline said it is arranging hotel accommodations and meals for passengers in Honolulu as well as options for resumption of the flight.
