Last year, the Indian skipper was ranked 83rd in the list.

It can be recalled that past year, the player was ranked 83rd and though he has had a $1 million increases as far as endorsement goes, he has moved down to the 100th spot. Football superstar Lionel Messi leads the list.

That put Messi ahead of long-time rival Ronaldo, the Juventus and Portugal star who was second with earnings of $US109 million.

The annual top 100 list complied by Forbes Magazine features 10 sports and athletes from 25 different countries. His endorsements this year include a successful shoe deal with Nike that dropped a variety of signature sneakers, such as the "Future is Female" and the "Cereal Pack".

Former world No 1 golfer Tiger Woods was 11th with $69.3 million, which included an estimated $54 million in endorsements. Overall, Ronaldo earns 96 million Euros compared to Neymar's 92 million.

Meanwhile, just one female athlete made it into the Top 100, with Serena Williams listed at No. 63 ($29.2 million).

Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton and boxer Anthony Joshua (both at $US55 million) were the highest-earning British athletes.

Boston had six athletes ranked among the world's best-paid, but even with all his Super Bowl rings, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was ranked toward the bottom of the pack at No. 81.

At number three keeping with the football theme, Neymar checks in followed by Canelo Alvarez and Roger Federer at the four and five spots respectively.

From leading India to victory in the U19 World Cup in 2008 to making the Forbes list of highest paid athletes for the third consecutive time, the Delhi lad has definitely come a long way. Placed 63rd, the tennis star from the United States of America has had an earning of Dollars 29.2 million in the last 12 months.
