Neymar: nobody forced Brazil star to sign for PSG - Al Khelaifi

Neymar Edging Closer to PSG Exit as Club Looks to Rid Itself of 'Celebrity Culture'

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has taken aim at forward Neymar by saying "nobody forced him to sign" for the club. The incident, which he denies, is claimed to have occurred at a Paris hotel in mid-May.

The 27-year-old footballer, who arrived in Paris from Barcelona for a record-breaking fee of $246 million in 2017, has had several rocky months, including injuries, a three-match ban for punching a fan in April after PSG's defeat in the French Cup final, rumoured spats with his teammates, and rape allegations which surfaced this month.

The Lyon man, who has been courted by all of the usual suspects - Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain - over the a year ago, has come to the attention of Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy recently, after a series of impressive performances in the Champions League.

"I do not want star behaviour anymore".

As reported by ESPN FC sources back in February, sporting director Antero Henrique had been on the way out for some time and Al-Khelaifi confirmed it was not a rushed decision to part with the Portuguese. "It must be completely different", he said to France Football.

"And if they don't agree with this point of view, the doors are open".

"They will have to do more and work harder".

'There are of course contracts to be respected, but the priority now is total membership of our project.

Al-Khelaifi also said was the first to blame for the ill-discipline last season and vowed to embrace his responsibilities.

"Nobody forced him to sign here. I will not let go of this "crazy" player". Nobody pushed him here.

Al-Khelaifi, however, insists Mbappe will not be allowed to join the influx at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"In two minutes, we reached a full agreement [for Leonardo to return]", he noted.

We must go get them, sometimes even tear them away.

"He's going to have full sporting power".
