London Skyscraper to Home the World’s First 360-Degree Infinity Pool

A UK-based pool manufacturer, Compass Pools, has announced plans to build a 360-degree infinity pool atop a 55-story skyscraper in London. Alex Kemsley, swimming pool designer and technical director for Compass Pools, told Business Insider sister site INSIDER that the staircase works like "a tube in a tube". The 600,000-litre pool is also transparent, allowing visitors to see the swimmers and sky above. The designer reveals, "The solution is based on the door of a submarine, coupled with a rotating spiral staircase which rises from the pool floor when someone wants to get in or out - the absolute cutting edge of swimming pool and building design and a little bit James Bond to boot!"

Along with this, a built-in wind speed monitor will help avoid water spilling onto the streets below, and an innovative heating system that captures hot gas produced through the building's air conditioning systems to warm the water for the pool.

But one major question most people have is: How on earth do you get in and out of the pool? The pool is made from cast acrylic rather than glass, as this material "transmits light at a similar wavelength to water so the pool will look perfectly clear", the firm says. Both the pool's walls and floor are completely transparent, meaning swimmers can get a full view of the hotel below and the London skyline.

What do you think of this 360-degree infinity pool?

Making a pool suitable for sticking atop a 55-story building posed some serious technical hurdles for the company, but they think they've got it all figured out.

"The first tube is to cut a path through the water and create an airlock", he said.

Of course, this pool hasn't been built yet.

The water will be heated using waste energy from the building's air-conditioning system. "The engineering is complex but delivers the seamless look".

Construction for the project could start as soon as early 2020 if the company is able to confirm all of its partners and contractors, after which the exact location of Infinity London will be announced.

The pictures of this infinity pool have gone viral on the social media and netizens have been wondering how one would enter and exit of the pool.
