Egypt's ousted president Morsi dies in court

Mohamed Morsi has died after he fainted during a trial and was taken to the hospital on 17 June, Egyptian Al-Ahram Gate reported.

In 2015 he was sentenced to twenty years in prison for ordering the torture of protesters, and received a further 25 year sentence for passing intelligence to Qatar.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was a Morsi ally, paid tribute to the former leader: "May Allah rest our Morsi brother, our martyr's soul in peace", he said. The team also found that Morsi, who had a history of diabetes, liver and kidney diseases, was not receiving the required medical care.

Egypt's President Mohamed Mursi participates in a meeting with U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta at the presidential palace in Cairo July 31, 2012.

He was given a 48-hour ultimatum by the military to meet their r=demands and resolve political differences, or else they would intervene by "implementing their own road map" for the country.

Morsi, a top figure in the Muslim Brotherhood, was toppled by the military in 2013 after mass protests against this rule.

As president, Morsi issued a constitutional declaration in late November 2012 that granted him unlimited powers and the power to legislate without judicial oversight or review of his acts.
